Awareness days and weeks help bring attention to important topics, but they are not meant to limit when accessibility conversations happen. Instead, they serve as reminders that communication access should remain part of everyday planning and decision-making. For individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing, access to sign language interpreters and accessible communication environments supports participation in civic life, education, employment, and public services. For municipalities and organizations working toward ADA compliance, Sign Language Awareness Week reinforces an important truth: communication accessibility is essential to inclusive communities.
